Petrol Consumers Get Modest Relief as Diesel Prices Climb
The federal government has revised petroleum prices, lowering the price of petrol by Rs0.75 per litre while increasing the rate of high-speed diesel by Rs2.24 per litre, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.
New Fuel Rates (Effective July 30)
- Petrol: Reduced by Rs0.75 → Rs335.06 per litre
- High-Speed Diesel: Increased by Rs2.24 → Rs390.62 per litre
The revised prices will come into effect from July 30, with implementation starting at 12:00 AM.
Diesel Hike to Drive Inflationary Pressures
While the petrol price reduction offers modest relief to motorists, analysts warn that the increase in diesel prices is expected to raise transportation and agricultural costs, with broader implications for inflation. Diesel is extensively used by freight transport, public transport operators, and the agricultural sector for heavy machinery and crop harvesting.
Higher transportation costs may also push up the prices of essential commodities, adding to the financial burden on consumers already grappling with elevated costs of living. The revised rates remain in force until the next review.
